How To Wear White Kicks Without Looking Like A Tourist

How to wear white sneakers

Stark-white kicks are no longer the choice for tourists only. Nowadays (since four years ago to be exact), they have become a fashion statement for both men and women. I honestly believe this trend is not slowing down any time soon. I decided to take part in it, because I love styling around sneakers in general and also because I've lately been into a white-color obsession.
Now, the only question is: Can we kick them? Well, wearing all white sneaks can be a tad intimidating, but the only way to find out if we can rock them, is by taking chances and wearing them.
To me, an easy way to wear white kicks stylishly is by pairing them with slick pieces and feminine garments, or a combination of both.
Today what you seeing is a brand new pair of all-white sneakers, which by the way, made me feel like a kid again.

I wanted to style them with so many fun combinations, but since the weather is still cold, I decided to wear them with winter-friendly pieces.
What I had in mind was a comfortable look from head to toe, but at the same time, I did not want to look sloppy and careless. All of a sudden, a black and white look seemed like a great idea, however, I wanted to add a touch warmness, but not only color-wise; I also needed a warm coat to keep me warm while "touring" around town. Well, I ended up wearing a mixed pattern outfit with matching bag and shoe color. The coat is vintage and it has a very feminine style, so I thought it was a great piece to add juxtaposition.

WHAT I WORE:

Sneakers: Adidas. Available here.
Coat: Vintage. Similar here.
Shirt: Collective Concepts (old).
Pants: Tahari
Sunglasses: Tom Ford.

The souvenir t-shirt tucked inside old shapeless jeans isn't the only characteristic that give tourists away. Taking a map and reading it on every street you go is also a big giveaway, so my boyfriend and I decided to add some humor to this photoshoot, by purchasing one at a local Shell gas station and using it in almost every shot.

The snow storm might be over, but the cold weather and icy grounds continue to remind us that winter time is far from over. After spending all weekend in my house, I finally decided to get out and enjoy a sunny but cold day in downtown. Monday morning, besides craving scrambled eggs, I was also coveting for a comfortable military-inspired outfit to march around town.

In My Element

Fashion Editorial In The Snow

The last couple days I've been feeling under the weather, but as soon I started getting my sense of humor back, my boyfriend suggested going to our back yard for a photo shoot (see similar posts herehere and here). The ground looked so beautiful after a mild snow that we had a day before, and obviously our dog Elvis was ready for play time.
I grew up being an outdoorsy person, therefore, every time that we have a chance to do a photo shoot around Mother Nature, I feel inspired.

The Studio 54 Way To Wear Black With Navy

How to wear a metallic shirt

It's not a secret for my readers that I love to wear metallics,  and mainly nowadays, because we don't have to wait until after dark to rock them. Metallic hues have become the new black, they not only can bring a touch of fun to our ensembles, but they can also add sophistication.
Today, I'm wearing a disco-like metallic shirt that I found brand new on Ebay for a very reasonable price. I've been looking for the right button down metallic shirt for a while, and only because they remind me of Studio 54 back in the 70's. I knew I could incorporate it in to an everyday look, and also use it  for bringing some bling to a classy color combo like navy with blue.

Color-Block With Bordeaux Jumpsuit

Jumpsuit street style

Whether you call it maroon, burgundy or bordeaux - this color can be worn with much more than you would think.
Burgundy has always been considered an autumn color, but nowadays, you can wear it all year round with pretty much any hue.
Today, I'm sharing a look with a burgundy jumpsuit paired with a red, black and orange. Yes, it's an unusual combo, but somehow it makes sense to me. I really like how these warm shades color-block  together, but I also love how black and silver bring an edgy and cool touch to this look.

Cold Weather Blues

Outfit with belted sweater

Brrrr, my goodness, it was 27 degrees when we did this photo shoot after our traditional Monday brunch date. I'm not a winter weather person, but I try my best to find motivation to dress up around this time of the year. Sometimes I just feel like staying all day in my house, wearing cozy pajamas while watching black and white movies and holding a cup of coffee.
Today I had to get out and dress for this freezing weather. As you see, I decided to wear a dress instead of pants. I know it sounds crazy wearing a dress with temperatures below 30's, however, wearing something somewhat inappropriate for any giving situation is sometimes a thrill to me.
Last year on a cool day of summer, I wore this powder blue dress with my beloved trench coat and pumps, but today I needed more layering in order to stay warm.

Modern Jumpsuit + Vintage Swing Coat

Jumpsuit street style

Jumpsuits aren't the easiest thing to wear or remove when you need to pay a "quick" trip to the ladies room. However, they can make you look taller, slimmer and elegant, so the little inconvenience in my opinion is worth it.
Today, I'm wearing a long sleeve jumpsuit, which is perfect for chilly weather, with a vintage swing coat that I'm sure you seen before in this blog. I could have worn a modern coat, but I wanted to add an interesting touch to my jumpsuit and also play a little bit with proportions.
I opted to use my white bag because I think it adds an unexpected touch of crispness to my ensemble and also because I'm obsessed with it.

The Bomber Windbreaker Jacket

French fashion style

The 70's were everything in fashion last year, but this year, it looks like the 90's have started moving in. Many of you were only kids in the 90's and some of us were already adults, but regardless of our age right now, I think we all can benefit from a touch of nineties.
Today, I'm wearing a windbreaker that I found at my favorite vintage shop in town hanging on a men's clothing rack. Since the jacket is cropped style, I thought it would look cute with high-rise pants like these red wide-legs. I wanted to show off the Mary Janes again, but this time instead of wearing them with sparkly socks, I opted for airtex stitch style.

Channeling My Inner Bianca Jagger

Bianca Jagger fashion style

There is one Hollywood style icon that I've always admired and, of course, I can see myself wearing her outfits; Bianca Jagger. She is a fellow Central American (Nicaraguan) gal, married once with The Rolling Stones singer Mike Jagger. She had the coolest tomboy, sexy and lady-like looks from the 70's/Studio 54 era.  She also wore suits like no other and made the color white look even edgier than black. I admire her way of wearing chic hats and let's not forget how she rocked bell bottoms. She was, and is, the style icon that I find inspiration from constantly. Nowadays, she is a very prominent international human rights advocate, which makes me admire her even more.
Today, I'm wearing a look inspired by her style. I don't have a white suit, however my piped polka dot blazer paired with a white blouse and my wide-leg cropped flares, were good enough for me to channel Bianca's style in a modern way.
If you aren't familiar with Bianca Jagger, I recently started a board with her stylish pictures on Pinterest. You are welcome to pin away.

Clothes With Movement

High low dress street style

Having a small wardrobe has terrific benefits, like for example, I have to put to work my creativity in order to take full advantage of my clothes. For example, today I'm wearing a hi-low dress that I've kept for a few years because of its style and the way it looks when I walk. It's a summer dress, but I wanted to style it for winter, therefore I layered it with a comfortable sweater and a classic peacoat.
When I say, "clothes with movement" I mean items that look good not only while I'm standing out, but also when I walk and more likely, they will continue moving around while styled with other pieces.

MJ Style

A black suit with cropped pants and shiny socks doesn't scream anything else but Michael Jackson. Yes, this time I was inspired the king of pop music and by the way, my boyfriend decided to play MJ music while doing this photo shoot. I hated to disappoint him, because I never learned how to do the moon dance.
