Maxi skirts and coats are often avoided by petite gals, however, in my opinion, they can help to give an illusion of a taller body. That being said, one important thing that petite gals (like me) should take into consideration when wearing maxi everything, is clean silhouettes. Looking stumpy is one of the biggest fears of petite gals, therefore, learning how to accessorize strategically is also important. When I look back at some of my
older outfits, I realized that wearing maxi skirts, dresses or coats has been a positive thing to the overall look of those particular outfits. At the same time, I've noticed that when I went
overboard with my accessories, I compromised the look of a well-intended outfit.
WHAT I WORE:
As you scroll down and look at all my pictures in this post, you will see that I don't look stumpy at any angle. But how did I achieve this? Well, first of all, I only wore one statement or colorful garment and surrounded it with simple line pieces, such as a midi classic coat and solid colored turtleneck. Since my outfit is constructed with long garments, keeping the rest simple it helps to the overall look.
Another styling that often is avoided by petite women and I applied to this look, is belting their jackets or coats. Many women (even non-petite) are under the impression that this will make them look larger or shorter. Per my own experience, I believe otherwise. In fact, cinching your coat, jacket or blazer can bring definition to all figure types. In this case, the belt was the accessory that added the right 👌 balance and definition in between my maxi skirt and my midi coat.
