Le Smoking Jacket

January 14, 2019

Hi lovelies! Today I'm sharing a look styled around my new le smoking jacket, commonly known as the tuxedo jacket. Before I acquired this jacket, I had two in my wardrobe that needed to be replaced with one with a better fit. Now, I'm very happy with new acquisition because as you can see, it's making my jeans look very wearable for cocktails or dining out. This is such a versatile piece, therefore, I couldn't compromise any longer wearing one that it didn't suit me anymore.
I'll always be thankful to YSL for introducing a tux style jacket for women back in 1966. Now we are able to find them pretty much in every women's clothing store. In my opinion, le smoking jacket just like the little black dress, will never go out of style.

These particular jackets come with three different type of lapels. I love the shawl collar better than the peak lapel or notch lapel because I feel it's the most elegant and yet more wearable. In fact, the original le smoking jacket worn by men back in the day were in the shape of a robe and they had a shawl collar. I kind of appreciate that masculine collar, therefore, I like to have mine with that characteristic from the original men's style.

This is the first look I wore with my new jacket, which by the way, got several compliments. I think the jacket elevated this look and made it pleasant to the eye. I've always liked the contrast between light wash denim and black, so my first choice of bottoms was jeans. But these high-rise boyfriend jeans and jacket needed a feminine and romantic touch, and what better way than a see-through bow blouse. Oh, and it has ruffles too! You can't get more feminine than that. I complimented the look with nude accessories in order to let the clothing do most of the talking. Then I put on my modern shield sunglasses, and that's when I realized, 😂 that they would do some talking as well...at least before it got dark. I can't help it, but I like to #dressfun.

WHAT I WORE:
Jacket: J. Crew/Blouse: French Connection/Jeans: Madewell (I cropped mine)/Shoes: Christian Louboutin/Bag: Vintage/Sunglasses: Ray-Ban.
